This summer, the beauty world suddenly has a new star in its sights - guava.
Not so long ago it was only associated with cocktails and juices, but now it has become a central ingredient in fashionable cosmetics ranges, from glowing lip glosses to refreshing sprays and skin and hair care products. According to Elle, the name has already taken hold on social media: Guava Girl Summer.
"Guava is not only about the bright flavour, but also about the powerful nourishment of the skin," states Paola Brezavsek, certified physician assistant and founder of the AZALA Skin Clinic in Miami.
She says this tropical fruit is rich in antioxidants, especially vitamin C, which brightens skin, helps fight pigmentation and stimulates collagen production.
One look at a cut guava and it's clear to see why it has become an inspiration for summer cosmetics. The fruit's bright pink core resembles the texture and shade of the trendy lip glosses and blushes that are at the height of popularity right now.
"Guava contains lycopene, another powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from external factors and early aging," explains Brezavsek.
She emphasises that this fruit is both healing and beautifying: thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, it is particularly useful for sensitive and problematic skin.
Guava is confidently going beyond facial care. Its components are also actively used in hair products.
"Guava leaf extract has the ability to soothe the scalp, fight dandruff and irritation," says Brezavsek. - "It's one of the few ingredients that takes care of both the hair and the skin underneath. I believe guava is not just the trendy fruit of the season, but a complete radiance and repair product."
The beauty industry has been quick to pick up on this trend. Brands are launching entire collections of products with guava - glosses with a fruity undertone, body creams and oils, refreshing toners and shampoos. This surge in popularity is explained not only by its tropical flavour, but also by its real, proven benefits.
If you've been sceptical of 'berry makeup' until now, or have been reluctant to follow trends like 'strawberry cheeks', guava may change your mind. It's a case of a trend backed by science and working in favour of the skin.
"Guava is not a temporary beauty fad, but a real fruit breakthrough in self-care," Brezavsek believes.
According to her, consumers are increasingly looking for products that are natural, effective and pleasant to use - and guava fulfils all these needs.
