Germany will transfer two more IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine by the end of 2024

Ukraine will receive additional IRIS-T short-range (SLS) and medium-range (SLM) air defence systems from Germany by the end of 2024.
This was announced by Major-General Christian Freiding, head of the special staff for Ukraine at the German Defence Ministry, during a meeting with journalists in Kiev, European Pravda reported.

Freiding specified that Germany has already transferred artillery howitzers, tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, as well as launched an attack drone programme.
The next IRIS-T SLM and SLS systems should arrive in Ukraine over the next days and weeks, in time for Christmas. But our support will continue after that, including after the German elections," said Christian Freiding.
Pre-delivery of IRIS-T systems
In early September 2024, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that the country had ordered 17 IRIS-T systems for Ukraine. Specifically, eight medium-range systems (SLM) and nine short-range systems (SLS) are planned for delivery.
As of October 2024, Ukraine has already received four SLM and three SLS systems. Subsequently, the German Defence Ministry announced the transfer of two more systems, and Scholz confirmed its readiness to deliver an additional IRIS-T system by the end of the year.
