Germany approves 2026 budget with record aid for Ukraine

The adoption of the budget was an important step in defining Germany's financial priorities for 2026 and its crucial role in ensuring stability and security in Europe.
The German Bundestag has adopted a budget for 2026 with a historic amount of aid for Ukraine. This was reported by Spiegel.
Thus, on Friday, 28 November, the lower house of Parliament approved the federal budget, including 11.5 billion euros to support Ukraine, which became the largest financial package for Kiev since the start of the war with Russia.
In total, Germany's budget for 2026 totalled 524.5 billion euros, up 21.5 billion euros from the previous year. This reflects the government's ambitious plans to finance defence, social protection and international aid, including assistance to Ukraine. More than a third of all spending will go to labour and social protection, while defence spending will reach a record €108 billion, the highest since the end of the Cold War.
Support for Ukraine has become a separate major line item in the budget, with €11.5 billion to be spent on arms purchases - artillery systems, drones, armoured vehicles and other modern military equipment.
These spending items emphasise Germany's desire to continue its strategic support for Kiev in the fight against Russian aggression and to strengthen European security, " the newspaper points out .
