Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Slovakia demand the transfer of Russian assets frozen in the European Union for the post-war restoration of Ukraine.

This is reported by Reuters , with reference to a letter from four countries, which they submitted to the EU finance ministers and which is at the disposal of the agency.

A significant part of the costs of restoring Ukraine, including compensation for victims of Russian military aggression, should be covered by Russia, the statement said.

The letter also calls for a bloc of 27 countries to start preparing new sanctions against Moscow. And the assertion that if Russia does not stop military aggression against Ukraine, there should be no economic ties between the EU and the Russian Federation at all.

In their letter, Lithuania, Slovakia, Latvia and Estonia added that the EU and like-minded countries have already frozen assets owned by Russian individuals and legal entities and about $300 billion of Russian central bank reserves. At the same time, the US Treasury has previously stated that they have no legal possibility to confiscate the blocked assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
