ex-OPWJ MP who justified Russian aggression got 5 years in jail


The deputy of Cherkasy city council supported the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and hoped to occupy leading positions in case of occupation of the region.
This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Cherkassy official was a member of the now banned political party "Opposition Platform - in his lifetime" and was an assistant to the MP.
Prosecutors in court proved that the Deputy of the city Council in June-July 2022 in conversations with his close relatives and acquaintances expressed pro-Russian views and narratives of Russian propaganda, - stated in the message.
In addition, the Deputy admired the Russian President, justified and recognised as lawful the actions of the occupiers. Also the convict wished the enemy victory over Ukraine, expecting to occupy leadership positions in case of occupation of Cherkasy region.
The court found the official guilty of justifying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and glorification of its participants (part 1, part 3 of article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to imprisonment for 5 years.
According to Suspilny from the courtroom, we are talking about Alexander Zamirailo. The MP himself does not agree with the verdict and intends to appeal it. He has a month to appeal. Until the appeal and the final verdict, the official will be at liberty under personal obligation.
Journalists note that Zaminail's wife is on an international wanted list. According to the investigators, he was planning to go to the USA.
