Evacuation of border residents in Sumy region extended

The Russians continue to shell the border region.

Eight more settlements in the 10-kilometre border zone of Sumy Region will be evacuated. This was announced by the head of the OVA, Volodymyr Artyukh, on air of the "United News" telethon.

According to him, people will be removed from the communities of Shostka, Konotop, Sumy, Akhtyr districts.

Communities in these territories are subjected to shelling. During the week there were 160 shellings, three people were killed, three were injured. Since the beginning of the year, 50 people have been killed. Yesterday there was a meeting of the Defence Council of the region and on the proposal of the military command will evacuate 8 more settlements from the 10-kilometre zone. The relevant orders have been provided," the official said.

It is known that the evacuation of the population from the 5-kilometre zone from the state border of Ukraine from the Russian Federation in Sumy region began in July 2023.

In April 2024 also announced the forced evacuation of children from Seredino-Budskaya and Velikopisarevskaya communities of the region. And on 10 May, the head of the OVA, Uladzimir Artyukh, issued an order on compulsory evacuation from Vorozhna and Bilopolye.

In total, 13770 people were evacuated from the border area of Sumy region, including 2220 children. All residents left 28 settlements located on the territory of four districts.
