Day of the Allied landings in Normandy: Zelensky took part in the ceremony


The ceremony was held in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, France, at the Omaha Beach Memorial.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Z elenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska have attended an official international ceremony in honour of the 80th anniversary of the landing of Allied troops in Normandy. This is reported by the website of the President.
The ceremony was held in France at the Omaha Beach Memorial in the city of Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer.
Those present watched a documentary film about the landing of the Allied troops, as well as a historical reconstruction of the event. Military aircraft flew through the sky.
Unity that defines history. Today in France together with the Allies honoured the bravery of the Allied troops who 80 years ago landed in Normandy. We remember. We thank them. We cherish the values of the defenders of life, - said Zelensky.
The landing in Normandy took place on 6 June 1944. This is one of the key events of the Second World War.
Allied troops, in particular the UK, the US, Canada, carried out the landing on the coast of Normandy in France occupied by Nazi Germany.
Earlier Socialportal reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will attend the G-7 summit in Italy on 13-15 June either in person or online.
