Russia during the offensive on Avdeevka in Donetsk region actually suffered the highest casualties in 2023

The UK Ministry of Defence reports this in its daily review of the situation in Ukraine.

According to British intelligence, the occupiers have sent up to eight brigades to Avdiyivka. They have suffered losses, which are probably the largest among Russian troops for the current year.

It is noted that heavy but inconclusive fighting has continued over the past week in the Avdiivka area, where Russia launched a large-scale offensive in mid-October 2023.

Russian "military bloggers," British intelligence notes, have sharply criticised the tactics of the Russian military during the offensive.

The nature of the operation suggests that Russia's primary military and political objective remains the same as it has been for most of the war. Political leaders are demanding the seizure of new territories, but the military is unable to organise effective offensives at the operational level," the review said.

Losses of heavy Russian equipment near Avdeevka in Donetsk Region are likely to undermine Russia's offensive capabilities in the long term, the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said in another review. Analysts draw attention to Ukrainian data and satellite images that show losses of Russian forces in the area.

As reported by the speaker of the Tavrian direction Alexander Shtupun on the air of the telethon, over the past 20 days the occupants have suffered huge losses, namely:

  • more than 6,500 people;
  • 100 tanks;
  • almost 250 units of other armoured vehicles.

If we talk about the number of losses, Avdeevka is the biggest defeat of the Russians. After all, if we count from 10 October, the total losses of the enemy in Donetsk region in the area of responsibility of the OSUV "Tavria" amounted to almost 6,500 people, - said the speaker.

He also noted that the last 3 days the number of airstrikes in this direction has decreased.

Perhaps it was transferred to other directions, or because of the weather. If before there were more than 20 airstrikes per day, for three days there were 2, 4 and 7, - said Shtupun.

Earlier Socialportal reported that after a relative lull, the Russians resumed massive attacks not only on Avdiivka itself, but also on neighbouring communities.
