In Germany, the largest donor of military aid to Ukraine, the pro-Russian party Alternative for Germany (AdG) has for the first time moved to the top of the popularity ratings. This is reported by Bild with reference to the data of a fresh poll.
According to the survey, 26 per cent of German voters support the AdG - the first time in the history of the party such a leadership. The CDU/CSU bloc, represented by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, gained 25%, one point behind, while the Social Democrats got 15%, the Greens and the Left - 11% each.
If the election were held today, the current coalition of CDU/CSU and SPD could only count on 40% of the vote, making it impossible to form a government. Bild emphasises that this is the first time that the AdG has become the main political force; previously only the CDU/CSU or the Social Democrats were in first place.
"Alternative for Germany" is a relatively young party, founded in 2013. It takes radical right-wing positions, criticises migration policy, opposes increasing EU influence and green energy.
The party's pro-Russian rhetoric attracts particular attention: the AdG demands the cancellation of all sanctions against Russia, the resumption of purchases of Russian gas and oil, and the cessation of all aid to Ukraine without condemning the Russian invasion.
