The Oreshnik is a Russian medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM).

State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Wolfovich said on air of the TV channel Belarus 1 that his country had prepared sites for the deployment of the Oreshnik missile system.

We have kept this since the times of the Soviet Union. I think that by the end of the year we'll fulfil the instructions of the two presidents, which were set before us, in particular, by the military," said the official.

He also pointed out that Minsk will soon send cars to Moscow, on which the Oreshnik complexes will be installed. He emphasised that those are Belarusian-made.

Because the base - the main vehicle - is produced at the enterprises of the military-industrial complex in the Republic of Belarus, while the means of defeat - missiles - in the Russian Federation. We are completing the production of the necessary number of these vehicles, which will soon be transferred to the Russian Federation to be equipped with the means of defeat," said Secretary of State of the Security Council.

He also recalled that Belarus has Soviet-era silos for the installation of ballistic nuclear missiles, which, according to the Budapest Memorandum, were taken out of the country to Russia.

The Oreshnik missile system first became known on 21 November 2024, when the Russians hit the Dnieper River with it.

Oreshnik is a medium-range solid-fuel ballistic missile on a mobile chassis with a warhead equipped with several individually guided missile units. The main purpose of the Oreshnik missile system is primarily nuclear strikes. As officially stated, its maximum range is 5,500 kilometres, it has a speed of up to Mach 10 (about 12,400 km/h, or 3 km/s) and can carry a warhead weighing up to 1.5 tonnes. When nuclear armed, the missile can deliver charges with a total yield of 900 kt (45 Hiroshimas).
