The 14th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, which has Su-30SM aircraft in service, is based at the airfield

This is reported by Babel, citing a source in the GUR.

"On 24 September, at the Khalino airfield in Kursk region, a drone attacked the room where the leadership of the 14th Zhdanov Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment was," the report said.

An intelligence source said the drone landed on the runway after being intercepted by electronic warfare equipment near the airfield, and when the air regiment's leadership and FSB officers came to inspect the UAV, "a munition detonation occurred."

There are wounded or dead as a result:

  • 14 Air Regiment commander;
  • one of his deputies;
  • a group of aviation officers;
  • a representative of the FSB military counterintelligence;
  • employees of the airfield.

Intelligence is now clarifying data on their condition.

Russian authorities have not officially provided information about the casualties from the drone attack. However, the Russian Telegram channel Fighterbomber expressed its condolences over the events in Khalino.

In addition, the local Telegram channel Tipichnyy Kursk, citing military publics, reported about the deaths of Russian military personnel as a result of the UAV attack on the airbase.

According to military Telegram channels, several explosions went off at the Khalino airfield in the Kursk region. According to preliminary data, the airbase was hit by Ukrainian drones. There are dead among the military. Details of the attack are being clarified," the report said.

"Khalino" not the first time comes under attack: the airfield has been hit since 2022. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion it is closed for civilian flights, used for basing Russian fighter jets. And in the early hours of 27 August, aircraft at the Kursk airfield were attacked. SBU counterintelligence drones worked on four Su-30s and one MiG-29. Among the targets hit were S-300 radars and two Pantsir. These UAVs have combat equipment "like HIMARS".
