Ukraine is among the top ten producers of walnuts.

Ukraine has become the seventh largest producer of walnuts in the world. From 1994 to 2022, more than 87.2 thousand tonnes of walnuts were grown in the country on average per year, AgroTimes reported citing FAOSTAT.

In the first place in the "nut" ranking was China. About 705.8 thousand tonnes of walnuts are grown there annually. Also in the top three were the USA and Iran with an average annual production of more than 405 thousand tonnes and 255.6 thousand tonnes respectively.

Turkey, Burkina Faso and Mexico are next. Ukraine is in seventh place. Chile, Romania and France ranked below.

Speaking about the continental distribution of production, the authors of the rating note that 57% of the world production of walnuts in the shell falls on the countries of Asia. American countries produce 25.5 per cent of production. Europe accounts for 14.4% and Africa for 3%. Another 0.1% are concentrated in Oceania.

Experts note that the production of nuts in the world has a wave-like character. Thus, from 1994 to 2011 there was a constant growth in world production. After the peak in 2011 there was a certain decline, but since 2013 the growth has resumed.

It is indicated that in 2022 the world grew more than 3.8 million tonnes of walnuts in the shell.

It should be noted that walnuts grow best in Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia and Chernivtsi regions. At the same time, they are grown mainly in small private farms.

We would like to add that walnuts are not only tasty, but also a useful product, rich in various nutrients.
