Today, 17 July, an exchange of prisoners of war took place. 95 soldiers of the Armed Forces, the National Guard and the State Border Service were returned to Ukraine.
This was reported by President Vladimir Zelensky in Telegram.
We continue to bring our people home. Another 95 defenders have been released from Russian captivity. These are soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, border guards, - wrote the head of state.
According to him, the United Arab Emirates took part in the release of the Ukrainian military.
The Coordination headquarters added that among the released defenders:
- 49 AFU soldiers, in particular a member of the "air bridge", who volunteered to fly to Azovstal to help the units blocked there. As well as two soldiers from the Air Force.
- 21 National Guardsmen;
- 10 military sailors;
- 7 from the Territorial Defence Forces and one defender from the territorial community volunteer formation;
- 5 border guards;
- 2 military men from the State Special Transport Service;
Many Ukrainian soldiers need long-term medical treatment, as they have consequences of wounds and chronic diseases.
Most of them have been in captivity of the aggressor country since 2022. Also among the released there is a defender who was considered missing," the message said.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion from the Russian captivity managed to return 3405 Ukrainians.
