Zelensky says how much Ukraine needs to rebuild

STATE EMERGENCY SERVICE

The plans of Kiev and Washington include the return of refugees, new jobs, and security guarantees.

Ukraine will need about 700-800bn dollars for post-war reconstruction. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this on 27 December, presenting an ambitious vision of the country's future and joint plans with the United States.

According to the head of state, Kiev and Washington are already working on a "roadmap for Ukraine's prosperity" until 2040. It is based on investment, economic growth and long-term stability.

Among the key goals are GDP per capita growth, job creation, increased life expectancy, return of refugees, macroeconomic stability, security guarantees and integration into the EU.

For this purpose, it is planned to create several financial instruments at once, including:

  • ukraine recovery fund,

  • a sovereign investment platform,

  • development fund,

  • ukraine Growth and Opportunity Fund,

  • as well as a US-Ukrainian investment fund for recovery.

The funds for human capital and support for the return of Ukrainians from abroad are discussed separately.

This is a strategic view of Ukraine's future," Zelenskyy emphasised, noting that the volume of investments could be even bigger, but the details will be disclosed later.
