Zelensky said when a turning point in the war could come

In March 2024, Russia is due to hold its next presidential election. Vladimir Putin has not yet officially announced his intentions to run for his already fifth term, but Russians are being prepared for the idea that "there is no alternative".

The presidential election scheduled for spring 2024 in Russia may play its role in the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia. Apparently, if Vladimir Putin "wins" them, he will "finally lose his legitimacy as the legitimate head of state. This could be a turning point in the war," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the Associated Press.

We understand that elections in Russia are being held undemocratically. It does not matter how they are held - everyone knows what the result will be ... The question for the world is: it could be illegitimate elections, which the world will not recognise. Here the "game" will be on the side of the Western leaders of the civilised world - whether to recognise them or not. By the way, there may be a turning point - the illegitimacy of President Putin," Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian leader stressed that now all the actions that are taking place in Russia are clearly visible to civilised countries and it is impossible to ignore undemocratic processes in the Russian Federation or not to notice them. Therefore, there should be a reaction, Zelensky said. He expressed hope that the Western world would not recognise the elections in Russia.

At the same time, Zelensky pointed out that there is no real political opposition to Putin inside Russia today.

We see these people. We see such opposition conditional or artificial, who have the same views with Putin on the war, on the world isolation of Russia, on the use of nuclear weapons, on the economy, on the occupation of Ukraine. This is not an opposition. It is just another satellite of Putin, albeit with a different face, name and the same devil in the middle," he believes.

We would like to note that Russia is due to hold the next presidential election in March 2024.
