Nearly 5 million refugees from Ukraine are abroad, with the most Ukrainians in Germany
According to updated UN statistics, there are 4.95m refugees from Ukraine abroad. More Ukrainians remain in Germany.
This was reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
It is noted that in May 2023, there were 5.14 million Ukrainians abroad, while the figure has decreased to 4.95 million. At the same time, during this time Germany has surpassed Poland in the number of refugees.
In Poland, the number of asylum seekers - 1 million 615.8 thousand - significantly exceeds the current estimate of the number in the country, while in Germany the number is lower, by contrast - 948.4 thousand," the notification said.
The Czech Republic has the third largest number of asylum seekers in Europe, with 341,700 refugees and 520,700 asylum seekers.
Other countries have the following number of Ukrainians:
- UK - 203 thousand (0.6 thousand have gone for protection);
- Spain - 182.6 thousand (178.6 thousand);
- Italy - 181,500 (178,500);
- Bulgaria - 160,600 (161,400);
- Romania - 134,600 (138,900); Romania - 134,600 (138,900);
- Moldova - 109,600 (8,000); Moldova - 109,600 (8,000);
- Slovakia - 102,100 (117,800).
There were 1 million 303,000 refugees from Ukraine in Russia at the beginning of June, of which 103,600 have applied for asylum," the journalists add.
Another 27,700 Ukrainians have found themselves in Belarus since the start of the full-scale invasion, of whom 2,800 have applied for asylum.
