WP reveals what fakes the Russians are cooking up
The work of "fake-making" is concentrated at the Main Research Computing Centre of Russia, also referred to as GlavNIVTs.
The Washington Post reports that the Kremlin is preparing new fakes to spew to the global press.
The journalists cite one Discord chat room in which Russian propagandists boasted that only 1 percent of the bots blocked, while others were successfully doing their job, promoting dangerous narratives about vaccines and the Ukrainian military, raising the profile of messages beneficial to the Russian government and the like.
The Washington Post reports that the bots spreading the dangerous narrative operate out of Russia's Main Research Computing Centre, known as GlavNIVTs. The centre does work directly for the Russian presidential administration. It says the Russian disinformation campaign network is known as Fabrika.
Western journalists point out that Fabrika propagandists have been successful in spreading lies, circumventing all the difficulties the network has created to counter the spread of fakes.
It is also noted that the bots have focused their work on several main areas that Russian propagandists promote online. In particular, false information is being spread that allegedly:
- uS officials are hiding a vaccination side effect
- the Azov regiment is carrying out punitive actions in Donbass
- Latvia, Lithuania and Poland will expel Ukrainian refugees and send them to fight
- SBU recruits UN staff for espionage
- Ukraine wants to influence Europe through NATO
