WP has learnt of Trump's plan to ban citizens of 36 countries from entering the US
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent a memo to diplomats working with countries on the new list on the topic of combating illegal migration.
The US plans to impose entry restrictions on citizens of 36 more countries, The Washington Post reported citing internal State Department documents.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent diplomats a memo with instructions on how to deal with the new countries included in the list because of problems with migration control. The documents note irregularities in paperwork and cases of large-scale government fraud. The countries on the list will be given 60 days to fulfil the US requirements.
Earlier, President Donald Trump has already imposed entry bans on citizens of 12 countries and restricted entry from seven others. The full ban is in place for citizens of Afghanistan, Haiti, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Libya and Myanmar. The partial entry ban is in place for citizens of seven nations - Togo, Turkmenistan, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Venezuela.
In his first presidential term, Trump has already restricted the right of citizens of other countries to enter, then the list included nine countries: Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen. That executive order was rescinded by his successor, Joe Biden, immediately after his inauguration.
Upon returning to the presidency on 20 January, Trump signed an executive order that identifies countries with such inadequate background checks as to require partial or total restrictions on the entry of their citizens.
