30% of Ukraine's territory is contaminated with explosive objects
30 per cent of Ukraine's territory needs to be demined and cleared of explosive hazards.
According to preliminary data, 174,000 square kilometres have been contaminated with explosive objects as a result of the Russian aggression, including 13,500 square kilometres of water bodies.
This was reported by the deputy head of the pyrotechnic work organisation department of the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine, Mykola Didyk, at a briefing at the Military Media Centre.
At present, pyrotechnicians have surveyed the contaminated areas - 93 thousand hectares of territory and 7.5 thousand hectares of water area having found defused 427 thousand explosive objects, including anti-personnel mines, cluster munitions, remotely-delivered mines, - the report says.
All efforts of mine clearance rescuers are aimed at clearing de-occupied settlements and restoring infrastructure. More than 700 pyrotechnics and 200 units of equipment take part in the work on a daily basis.
