Hamburg authorities show containers to house Ukrainian refugees
Thousands of refugees in Hamburg are in need of housing.
BILD writes that Hamburg authorities have shown containers in which Ukrainian refugees will be accommodated
According to the newspaper, more than 50,000 refugees registered in Hamburg are in need of housing, 20,000 of them have arrived from Ukraine. The city's shelters and hostels for asylum seekers are overcrowded, so the local authorities decided to house them in mobile containers
Despite their small size - 6 metres long and 2.5 metres wide - they are equipped with a kitchen and a bathroom, as well as water and gas supplies. Four to six people can be accommodated in one container
According to Melanie Leonhard, Hamburg's senator for social affairs, the city receives about 100 new refugees every day, so the mobile containers are a quick solution for people arriving from Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine given the housing shortage.
