Vladimir Zelenski addresses guests at the Berlin Film Festival

Office of the President

Zelensky believes that Russia wants to build a Berlin Wall between Ukraine and Europe.

The opening ceremony of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival is taking place today. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the audience.

Zelenskyy, in his address to the audience, compared Russia's goals in the war against Ukraine to its desire to build a Berlin Wall between Ukraine and Europe.

For many years, Potsdamer Platz was "cut" by the Berlin Wall. Formally it separated West and East Berlin. It divided the free world from the totalitarian one. And it was not just about state borders on a map. The wall separated different worldviews, philosophies, different values. Today the same wall is being built in Ukraine by Russia. The wall between us and Europe. To separate Ukraine from its own choice and its own future. The wall between freedom and slavery. Between the right to life and rocket attacks. Between development and the ruins that are not being built.

The President of Ukraine urged that culture, cinema and their personalities should not be kept out of politics. Especially when it comes to issues of terror and Russian crimes.
