Vereshchuk: Ukraine has about 7m undocumented migrants
To date, some 5 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) are registered in Ukraine, while about 7 million are unregistered.
The deputy prime minister and minister for reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk, said this in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.
We understand that the adoption of a new strategy is more than relevant, because a year of war has shown that the current strategy no longer meets the challenges. We are talking about one and a half million displaced people registered before 24 February 2022. Today, we are talking about at least 5 million registered IDPs, while statistics put the number of unregistered IDPs at 7 million," the minister said.
She also noted that assistance to migrants, compared to 2014, has changed tremendously. After all, back then Ukrainians were hardly helped with housing, and financial aid amounted to just 442 hryvnias.
