Vance explained why Trump needs to talk to the Russian president

Trump is pursuing the kind of diplomacy without which peace cannot be achieved, Vance believes.

US Vice President J.D. Vance has said why Donald Trump is engaging in direct dialogue with Vladimir Putin. In an interview with Fox News, he said that Trump is employing tactics of"aggressive diplomacy", which he considers key to achieving peace.

You can disagree with Vladimir Putin's decision to invade Ukraine, but if you want peace, you have to be strong. And you have to talk. That's what aggressive, active diplomacy is," Vance emphasised.

According to him, Trump adheres to the principle: to strive for peace, relying on strength and not allowing the media to indicate with whom and how to negotiate.

His doctrine - to have the strongest army in the world, to work for peace and not allow journalists in Washington to dictate how to do diplomacy, - added Vance.

Recall, in the summer Donald Trump held a meeting with Putin in Alaska, where they discussed the war in Ukraine and possible ways to end it. Then a breakthrough was not achieved, but after a telephone conversation in October, Trump announced a new summit - in Budapest.

Preparations began, but very quickly came to a standstill. The media reported that Russia refused to change its demands to end the war, which was the reason for the breakdown of the talks. Trump himself recently said that the Kremlin "does not want to end the war yet," which is why the meeting did not take place.

The Atlantic previously wrote that the White House recognised the failure of Washington's attempts to persuade the parties to compromise. It was noted that the peace process was blocked by the Kremlin's ambitions and Kiev's categorical refusal to cede territory.

The sources also claimed that Trump initially believed that the conflict could be ended with a "simple agreement" recognising Russian territorial seizures and providing Moscow with economic benefits.
