Ukraine is creating an additional instrument for the release of prisoners - mixed medical commissions, which will include representatives of neutral countries.

A representative of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Andriy Yusov, said this during a briefing presentation "Ukraine has created an additional tool for the release of prisoners of war - mixed medical commissions" at the Military Media Centre.

Ukraine announces the creation of mixed medical commissions. This will help to release Ukrainian prisoners and help the enemy to return their prisoners. This is the third case in the world history when such an initiative will be introduced," Yusov said.

According to him, the commission will involve three doctors: one doctor from the country holding the POWs and two doctors from neutral countries. This is regulated by the Geneva Conventions.

The speaker also stressed that Ukraine had previously quickly returned seriously wounded Russians. Since our state adheres to international law.

We are obliged to ensure proper treatment of all prisoners of war, regardless of their nationality," Yusov added.

We will remind, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 48 exchanges of prisoners of war have been held. In total, almost 2,600 defenders were returned to Ukraine.
