Photos of Kakhovka reservoir after explosion published online

After Russian troops blew up the Kakhovska hydroelectric power station, the local reservoir was practically swamped.

A video to this effect was posted on Telegram by renowned blogger Igor Lachenkov (TG-channel "Lachen writes").

Earlier, Maksym Soroka, an ecologist and expert in environmental management, environmental policy and environmental monitoring, spoke out on his Facebook page, answering questions from Ukrainians about what awaits the Kakhovka reservoir after the explosion of the HPP, and predicted that it will turn into a temporary swamp.

He stressed that the water will not disappear, but the situation in the area will change. Under our climatic conditions, a reservoir of this size and with such an anthropogenic load should be at least 8 metres deep. This is necessary to avoid freezing in winter, to maintain an oxygen regime in summer and to carry out wastewater treatment. Soroka also reminded that water from Zaporizhzhya NPP is taken above the dam, and wastewater is discharged into Kakhovka reservoir.

Other scientists confirm that after the dam has been blown up, the reservoir has shallowed, and its current depth is a little more than 10 metres. This means that at present it is not possible to use the water for domestic purposes and at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
