Students from Africa tried to recruit for war in Russia
The students were tried to persuade them to accept an offer from either the Russian army or the Wagner group.
The Daily Beast reports:
The universities in Rostov-on-Don put pressure on African students, particularly from Nigeria, to join the war on the Russian side.
The students were promised $3,000 for taking part in the war and $5,000 if they signed up with the Wagner PMC.
The students told the publication that some university officials warned them that the Russian government might deny them certain privileges, including increased tuition fees and the cancellation of scholarships for some foreign students, if they did not accept the offer.
Also one of the three African students, who chose not to identify themselves, told the publication:
University officials reminded us a couple of times that some Africans were already fighting in Ukraine and making good money. They wanted us to believe that fighting in Ukraine would benefit us financially.
