"They found 15 pieces of shrapnel in my body": an AFU fighter told about fighting on the front line (video, photo)
Viktor, a border guard with the call sign "Otshel", had served in the army for 27 years. The war changed his plans and on 26 February 2022 Victor arrived at his home military unit.

Viktor participated in combat operations on the eastern borders of the country in 2014. Two weeks before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he was discharged to the reserve. Together with his family he went to visit his parents in Rivne region. The war changed plans and already on 26 February 2022 Victor arrived in his native military unit.
In the middle of March, the unit in which the border guard served, went to the combat zone. The first heavy battle took place just on the second day after the arrival of border guards in the settlement of Stepnoye.
Then - holding positions in the settlement of Sladkoye in Donetsk region and later in Maryinka. There, the Otshel unit defended the town from the Kadyrovites.
on 9 April 2022, Otshel, rescuing his wounded commander after tank shelling, was himself severely wounded.
They found 15 splinters in my body, three of them stayed with me - as a memento. It's scary in war. It was scary in 2014, and it is no less scary now. But we have to do our job honourably for the sake of our children's future," recalls the border guard.
For conscientious and successful performance of combat tasks border guard "Otshel" was awarded the honourable badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Golden Cross".
