How much Ukrainian refugees cost Poles

Poland believes that the number of Ukrainian refugees in the country could reach 6 million people.

The stay of one Ukrainian refugee in Poland daily costs the country's budget an average of 25-30 euros. This is reported by the Polish edition rmf24.pl.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki informed the European Commission about this and asked for financial assistance. At the same time, the Prime Minister presented two calculations that correspond to two scenarios for the development of events.

The first, called "basic", assumes the presence in Poland of 2 million refugees. In this case, the cost of their maintenance will amount to 11 billion euros.

The second scenario assumes the presence of 5-6 million refugees in Poland if the situation in Ukraine deteriorates. According to government estimates, it will cost the country 24 billion euros.

The largest costs are for social security: from 3 billion euros in the first scenario to 7 billion euros in the second. We are talking about social assistance (for example, child care, family care, co-financing the child's stay in a nursery, a children's club or an after-school club).

In a “worsening scenario”, €7 billion could also be spent on accommodation and basic necessities, on the maintenance of reception points: folding beds, tents, food, medicines and medical services in accommodation centers, housing subsidies.

Education will cost from 1 to 3 billion euros, transport (for example, free travel for refugees or the adaptation of infrastructure for the storage and transport of humanitarian aid) from one to two billion. Also, a billion is expected to be spent on healthcare services.
