Man sets fire to door at Lithuanian Defense Ministry
The man is suspected of involvement in other arson attacks.
In the morning of 20 October, a fire broke out in the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence in Vilnius. According to the police, it was a deliberate arson, local media outlet Delfi reported.
It is reported that at 7:13 an alarm went off in the ministry - the duty officer noticed smoke on the ground floor of the building. Rescuers and police were quickly sent to the scene.
The rescuers on the spot found the source: the wooden entrance door was on fire - it was an unused entrance to the building from the courtyard.
Subsequently, the police reported that the suspect in the door arson was detained - he was a Lithuanian man born in 1984.
Before the fire, a similar incident occurred nearby on Gediminas Avenue, where the doors of a café were set on fire at around 6am.
The police believe that the suspect had previously set fire to a rubbish bin and moved it to the front door of the Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service building, as well as to wooden structures and protective fabric on the ground floor of the Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office.
