Seventy per cent of educational institutions in Ukraine have shelters
About 20,000 Ukrainian educational institutions have verified shelters and can provide offline learning.
This was reported by the director of the Civil Protection Department of the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine, Viktor Vitovetskyy, at a briefing at the Military Media Centre.
According to him, 19.7 thousand educational institutions have checked shelters to protect students, trainees and teaching staff. This is only 70% of the total number of schools in Ukraine.
Such a number of shelters can provide protection for 57% of participants in the educational process.
This means that out of the total number of educational institutions 70% can work offline, but some will work in several shifts, because they will not be able to cover the full estimated number of students, teachers and other participants of the educational process at once in shelters, - said the representative of the department.
At the same time, Vitovetskyy noted that the total number of shelters in Ukraine has increased. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the fund of civil defence facilities has increased more than threefold. Before the start of the full-scale invasion, there were about 20 thousand such facilities on the books. At the moment the total number of shelters is more than 60 thousand. Of these:
- more than 5,200 shelters;
- 14,000 anti-radiation shelters;
- more than 41 thousand simple shelters and dual-purpose structures.
According to a representative of the State Emergency Situations Service, such a number of facilities allows to protect about half of the Ukrainian population.
