Ukraine may sue European and American banks
After the end of hostilities, the Ukrainian authorities intend to sue world banks that work with companies trading in Russian oil, gas, or shares of Gazprom and Rosneft.
Oleg Ustenko, economic adviser to the Ukrainian president, told the Financial Times that he personally approached the heads of several banks, including HSBC and JPMorgan Chase, demanding that they stop funding all such companies, saying that they were essentially committing war crimes by financing the creation of weapons, from which civilian Ukrainians are dying.
Ukraine plans to file claims against these banks with the International Criminal Court. This court does not hear claims against corporations, but it can prosecute their individual employees.
