Russian nuclear submarine spotted off Italian coast

Russia may have secretly sent one of its nuclear attack submarines into the Mediterranean. Presumably, we are talking about the nuclear submarine K-266 Orel - one of the Oscar II submarines. The boat is assigned to the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation. This is reported by Naval News .

There are strong indications that a Russian attack or cruise missile submarine is operating near Italy, the statement said.

Journalists note that it is impossible to say how long the boat is in the Mediterranean. They also suggested that its appearance near the coast of Europe may be associated with the war in Ukraine.

Now a Russian nuclear submarine appears to be playing hide-and-seek with NATO forces in the Mediterranean.

It is known that Russia already has two Improved-KILO class submarines in the Mediterranean. They are located at the base of the Russian Navy in Syria.

According to official information, the Russian Navy includes 13 nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines, 27 nuclear-powered submarines with missile and torpedo weapons, 19 diesel submarines, 8 special-purpose nuclear submarines and 1 special-purpose diesel submarine.
