US presidential candidate Donald Trump accepted his party's nomination for president at the Republican convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During his speech, he mentioned the war in Ukraine. This was reported by Voice of America on 19 July.
It was Trump's first speech before a large audience since the assassination attempt on him at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Speaking on foreign policy, Trump said that the two wars currently going on in Europe and the Middle East "would never have happened" if he were president.
Trump repeated his thesis, which he has made many times before, but did not explain how he would stop these wars.
Under President Bush, Russia invaded Georgia. Under President Obama, Russia invaded Crimea. Under the current administration, Russia is seeking to take over all of Ukraine. Under President Trump, Russia has taken nothing. Look at the attack on Israel. Look at what is happening to Ukraine. Cities have just been bombed. How can people live like that? They're comparing buildings to the ground there," Trump said.
In his speech, he also said that the world is on the brink of World War III.
