Trump and Putin had a phone conversation ahead of Trump's meeting with Zelensky
Representatives of the press have been invited to a meeting with the Ukrainian delegation.
US President Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin right before his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This was reported by Trump himself on the social network Truth Social.
I just had a good and very productive phone conversation with Russia's head Putin before my meeting today at 1pm (8pm Kiev time) with Ukrainian President Zelensky. The meeting will take place in the main dining room of the Mar-a-Lago Hotel. The press is welcome," the American leader wrote.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the conversation, but did not disclose details.
Earlier, Kremlin officials said there were no plans for contact between Trump and Putin in 2025. Nevertheless, Peskov noted that Russia was preparing an analysis of the US peace plan to understand how Trump's proposals had changed after the agreement with Ukraine.
The meeting between Trump and Zelensky is intended to discuss the key peace plan unveiled on 26 December. The plan includes 20 points and accompanying documents on security guarantees and Ukraine's post-war reconstruction. Zelenskyy specified that he intended to discuss five main blocks: security guarantees, the military component, the country's reconstruction and further steps.
It should be noted that on 28 December, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky flew to Miami to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump. The meeting will begin at 20:00 Kyiv time. Further joint statements of the presidents and a telephone conversation with European leaders are planned.
