The number of accounted weapons in Ukraine exceeds 1m units. Leonid Timchenko, deputy interior minister, told Ukrainian News.

The most popular among Ukrainians are civilian versions of the Kalashnikov assault rifle and American M4 (a family of firearms derived from early versions of the M16, based on the original AR-15).
Timchenko noted that today any citizen can walk into any shop that sells weapons. After purchasing a weapon directly in the shop by means of the Registry, it is possible to apply to the police for registration of the respective weapon.
Right on the spot. The shops have such access," he explained.
At the same time, he noted that in the Unified Register all these weapons are not displayed, because information about them needs to be updated.
According to him, the register will become fully functional - in June 2026.
Note, Ukrainians who have military weapons, after the end of the war with the Russian Federation will need to surrender them. This applies to weapons issued for the defence of the state and trophy weapons.
