Which nation Ukrainians consider historically close to them is revealed
The majority (63%) of Ukrainians believe that they are historically closer to Poles. Only 12% associate their historical past with the Russians, 7% with another nation and 17% are undecided.
This is known from a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
Those who believe that Ukrainians are historically the closest to Poles are most numerous among residents of western regions (70%) and least among residents of eastern regions (49%), but this viewpoint is held by the vast majority in all categories in question, regardless of region or other characteristics," the study notes.
In addition, 64% of respondents agreed with the statement that Ukraine was a colony of the Russian Empire, 31% disagreed and 5% were undecided.
