Media: Occupiers may open new front to distract AFU from Donbass

The occupiers plan to occupy Donbass by March by encircling the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the north and south through Kremenna and Ugledar.

This was reported by the New York Times on Friday, 10 February.

According to the newspaper, Russia may open a new front, probably near Sumy and Kharkiv regions. This will serve as a distraction for the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas.

At the same time, Ukraine is also preparing a counter-offensive.

The paper writes that despite this, it will be difficult to advance in the east because of the positions fortified there since 2014, so the counteroffensive could probably start in the south, for example in Melitopol. The city is located at the intersection of two highways and an important railway line.

The publication forecasts that the success of the AFU counter-offensive in the southern direction will weaken Russia's control over Kherson Region. Ukraine will be able to divide Russian forces.
