Several dozen Democratic congressmen called on Biden to start direct talks with Russia

Some Democrats believe that the alternative to a diplomatic solution is a "protracted war" with "catastrophic and incomprehensible risks."

It is reported by The Washington Post. The collective letter of senators states:

We have no illusions about the difficulty of engaging Russia, given its blatant and illegal invasion of Ukraine. If there is a way to end the war while preserving a free and independent Ukraine, America must use every diplomatic avenue to support a solution that is acceptable to the people of Ukraine.

Democrats are convinced that in addition to economic and military assistance, Ukraine needs a diplomatic proactive push, redoubling efforts to find realistic conditions for a ceasefire.

The White House has already published a response. Representative of the National Security Council at the White House, John Kirby, said that the United States is not going to negotiate with Russia without the participation of Ukraine.
