Scientists have found a way to repair damaged hair with plant oils

Scientists have developed a compound based on vegetable oils that may help repair damaged hair. In lab tests, it strengthened hair structure and reduced breakage. This is important because hair damage is a common problem after colouring and heat styling.

It's about a more "eco-friendly" alternative to the usual remedies.

Details

A study has shown that a mixture of plant-based ingredients, including tung oil, can improve the condition of damaged hair.

According to scientists, this composition helps to "seal" the hair cuticle - the outer protective layer - and increases its elasticity.

As a result, hair becomes less brittle and better able to withstand mechanical impact.

The authors note that the effect is especially noticeable on hair damaged by colouring, bleaching or exposure to heat.

At the same time, unlike traditional products, the new formula is based on plant components and does not require aggressive chemicals.

However, the research was conducted in a laboratory and the effectiveness in practice has yet to be confirmed.

Why it matters

Hair damage is one of the most common grooming problems, especially when using colours and hot tools.

Researchers note:

  • natural ingredients can provide an alternative to chemical products
  • environmental damage may be reduced
  • such products may be safer for regular use

In the future, such developments may become the basis for new hair care products.

Background

Interest in "clean" and environmentally friendly cosmetics is growing, and more and more research is aimed at replacing synthetic ingredients with natural ones.

Meanwhile, traditional keratin treatments often involve the use of chemicals.
