The Secretary General urged NATO members to perceive the situation as if all countries of the bloc live "on the eastern flank".

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said that Russian "atrocities" in the air along the alliance's eastern flank are becoming more frequent. According to him, Russian drones violated airspace not only in Poland, but also in Romania, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Rutte emphasised that regardless of whether the drone attack on Poland was deliberate or accidental, the Russians pose a serious danger. He said this at a joint press conference with NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe General Aleksus Hrynkiewicz.

The Secretary General noted that after the mass UAV raid on Poland, NATO allies expressed full solidarity and condemned Russia's reckless behaviour and stressed that the protection of the Alliance's eastern flank was of paramount importance.

At the same time, Rutte warned that it was not only drones that posed a threat, but also Russia's latest missiles, which could reach European capitals in minutes.

I should not think that living in Madrid or London I am safer than in Tallinn. The newest Russian missiles, accelerated five times faster than the speed of sound, will reach Western capitals in just a few minutes," he emphasised.

The Secretary General added that in this sense, all European NATO members "live on the eastern flank."

To increase preparedness in the Alliance has deployed enhanced surveillance called the mission "Eastern Guardian" to flexibly protect allies from any threats, - he added.

Recall, on the night of 10 September, the Polish military recorded numerous violations of the airspace of the country by Russian kamikaze drones, which led to the suspension of airports. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the military used weapons on enemy targets and informed the NATO Secretary General about the measures taken.
