Russian occupants allowed circulation of hryvnia in Kherson
At the same time, the occupiers set an unfavorable exchange rate for the owners of the hryvnia.
This is reported by analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War.
Experts note that the decision of the occupying authorities of the Kherson region to allow the hryvnia to circulate along with the ruble was caused by problems with the economy. In addition, this was facilitated by the active use of the hryvnia on the black market.
Analysts remind that representatives of the occupational administration of the Kherson region announced back in May that the region would completely switch to rubles in September. Now they have officially allowed the circulation of the hryvnia - however, by setting an unfavorable rate for the owners of the hryvnia.
The failure of the Russian occupation administration's intentions to impose the ruble shows that its attempts to destroy Ukrainian identity appear to be failing. Ukrainian identity and patriotism in the territories occupied by Russia is preserved, although it will not be easy for Ukraine to rebuild the institutions and regional economy that the Russian occupiers are destroying as the Ukrainian army liberates new territories.
