Russians held in Ukrainian captivity for up to three months - Justice Ministry

For Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine, according to the Geneva Convention, detention centres and camps have been set up.

The ministry's official website has reported this by Ukrainian Deputy Justice Minister Olena Vysotska.

The prisoners of war are kept in the conditions in which officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces live, eat and are served," Vysotska said.

According to her, Russians in Ukrainian captivity are held on average for 2-3 months. At the same time, international organisations, journalists and law-enforcement agencies can communicate with the captives.

Ukraine shows that we treat even prisoners of war with dignity," the deputy minister added.

We shall remind you that 47 prisoner-of-war exchanges have occurred since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. For all this time, it was possible to return 2,576 Ukrainian defenders. In addition, Azov commanders who were captured in Mariupol in May 2022 were returned to Ukraine from Tertia.
