A Russian blogger has been arrested in Albania for espionage. Now she is seeking political asylum
A Russian woman does not want to return to Russia because she could be prosecuted there for criticising Russia's war against Ukraine.
This is what the publicationBIRN claims.
The person in question is Russian blogger Svetlana Timofeeva. She is being tried in Albania on suspicion of espionage. Now she is applying for political asylum. Because she claims that if extradited to Russia, she would face persecution there because of her criticism of Russia's war against Ukraine.
The Russian woman also denies the espionage charges. She says she was working on a project to research abandoned Cold War-era buildings.
Albania has already given permission for extradition, but the matter is still pending in court.
It is worth recalling that on 20 August 2022, police in Albania detained three people who were trying to break into a military factory in the town of Gramsci. They were 33-year-old Svetlana Timofeeva, 23-year-old Mikhail Zorin and 24-year-old Ukrainian Fyodor Mikhailovich.
