Putin is now nodding at Trump - a surprise statement about peace talks

Suddenly, Moscow made a public statement about the end of the war.

A breakthrough in the negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine is possible only if the positions agreed at the meeting in Anchorage are observed, the press secretary of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Dmitriy Peskov, has said, RBC-Ukraine has reported, citing Russian propaganda media.

A breakthrough on Ukraine is possible only if the understandings reached (at the talks between Putin and Trump in the summer of 2025 - ed.) in Anchorage are respected," Putin's spokesman assured.

At the same time, he immediately clarified that the Kremlin does not want to publicly go into the details of the agreements reached, because conversations on ending the war in Ukraine allegedly need to be held in closed mode.

At the end of January, it became known that Russia wanted a potential peace agreement with Ukraine to be based on the so-called "Anchorage formula", which the USA has not publicly confirmed despite Russian assurances. In particular, such an initiative, according to Russia, would involve territorial concessions from Ukraine, in particular the establishment of occupier control over all of Donbass.

The Russians claim that such ideas have allegedly already been agreed upon at a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in the city of Anchorage, Alaska.

The trilateral talks on ending the war in Abu Dhabi concluded the other day. Afterwards, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the United States was proposing that the sides end the war by early summer and could exert diplomatic pressure according to that timetable.

Ukraine insists that security guarantees must be a key element of any agreement to end the war. They must be signed before other documents.

Whether Peskov's statement by the Kremlin mouthpiece referring to Anchorage was an attempt to justify in advance the intransigence of Russia's negotiating position and to drag out the negotiation process is unknown.

As the media have repeatedly reported, the administration of US President Donald Trump wants to end the war in Ukraine before the congressional elections scheduled for this autumn, presenting the peace agreement as his great achievement.
