Prosecutor's office investigates abuse of Ukrainian prisoners of war on Kharkiv direction

Russian military on the Kharkiv direction beat Ukrainian prisoners of war and simulated execution by shooting.

The Prosecutor-General's Office of Ukraine has launched proceedings over the mistreatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian troops in Kharkiv Region. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor-General on 3 June.

Under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office, a pre-trial investigation into the fact of violation of laws and customs of war (part 1 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) has been launched.

During the monitoring of social networks, prosecutors found a video, which recorded the ill-treatment of Ukrainian military by the occupants in the Kharkiv direction, - reported in the Prosecutor's office.

The RF military inflicted bodily injuries on Ukrainian soldiers, as well as simulated execution by firing an automatic weapon near the head of one of the POWs.

The occupants also applied psychological pressure to the Ukrainian soldiers, forcing them to sing the USSR anthem

Such actions are a violation of the Geneva Conventions, according to which prisoners of war have the right to humane treatment, - emphasised the prosecutor's office.

Now measures are being taken to identify the victims and servicemen of the Armed forces of the Russian Federation.

Earlier Socialportal reported that immediately after release from captivity Ukrainians receive prepared food packages and backpacks with clothes, shoes, hygiene products and a smartphone.

In Ukraine, Russian prisoners of war, who came to kill Ukrainians, are treated humanely, complying with the requirements of the 3rd Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
