The President assessed the risks of a nuclear strike on Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the Russian government is currently not ready to use nuclear weapons, but has begun preparing society for such a development of events, writes BBC .

We see that the Russian authorities love life, and therefore the risks of using nuclear weapons, I believe, are not as clear today as some experts say, the president said in an interview with the agency.

He stressed that the Russian leadership is aware of the irreversibility of such a step and understands that everyone who decides to strike will himself be "under the gun." At the same time, he drew attention to the atrocities of the Russians and how they mocked and continue to mock Ukrainians in the occupied territories. And therefore, according to the president, anything can be expected from the Russian side.

The fact that it is dangerous, and the fact that we saw the consequences of what Russia did with us - their torture, their looting, rape, and then the occupation of the nuclear power plant, - Zelensky drew attention.

He also pointed to the inadequacy of the Russian leadership. That is why, the president believes, the risk of using nuclear weapons cannot be ruled out.

At the same time, he refuted the fact that he allegedly called on NATO to launch a preventive nuclear strike on the Russian Federation, the “news” about which was picked up by Russian propagandists and Kremlin officials began to comment.

Zelensky noted that his words were misinterpreted, and he spoke about the need for sanctions pressure.

Note that the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine believes that the risk of Russia using nuclear weapons against Ukraine exists. However, the question of the quality of these weapons "raises questions."
