The Latvian government has allocated additional funding for Ukrainian refugees
In total, more than 43 thousand Ukrainians have been granted asylum in Latvia.
The Latvian government will allocate an additional 10m euros to local governments to support refugees from Ukraine, Delfi has reported. This is reported by Delfi.
It is noted that earlier Riga allocated 21,788,249 euros to cover the costs of local governments in 2023, which provided support to citizens of Ukraine, including accommodation and food. Now the financial support for Ukrainian refugees will reach 32,152,527 euros.
Next, the Minister of Finance must inform the Sejm Budget and Finance (Taxes) Commission about the changes in the allocations. If the Saeima Commission does not raise objections within five working days after receiving the relevant information, the changes in the allocations will come into force.
We would like to point out that as the hostilities in Ukraine continue, Latvian public organisations insist on the need to continue supporting Ukrainians.
In particular, Ukrainians can receive free accommodation in Latvia for up to 120 days, regardless of the date of their arrival after 24 February 2022. Ukrainians can also expect a monthly allowance of 109 euros for the first person and 76 euros for each subsequent person in a civilian household of Ukrainian citizens. Other material support or social services according to the individual needs of the person.
