Poland proposes to speed up Ukraine's accession process to the EU

Europe is living at a turning point in history, so a lot should be changed in it, says Warsaw.

It is worthwhile for Ukraine to create an accelerated mechanism for membership in the EU and to do everything possible so that Ukrainians become part of the European family faster, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the Munich Security Conference, Interfax Ukraine has said.

We cannot compare what is happening in Ukraine with a "normal or almost normal accession process". We must think outside the box. We are living at a turning point in history, we must change almost everything in Europe and therefore we must create a new process for Ukraine. Fast track is synonymous to this, - said Morawiecki.

It is noteworthy that not all European politicians share Warsaw's position. Some of them believe that Ukraine will need about 10 years to join the EU. However, the Ukrainian leader is convinced that Ukraine can become a full member of the EU within the next two years.

We shall remind you that European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said that Ukraine would be a member of the EU during a welcoming speech to Zelenskyy in Brussels on 9 February.
