Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced the preparation of a new project to equip Ukrainian brigades.

He said this during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the press service of the Ukrainian president has reported .

The Polish prime minister stressed that he would actively discuss the project with European partners, including the Baltic States and Scandinavia. This should be a continuation of the already existing initiatives of European countries to train and equip Ukrainian military units. The Baltic and Scandinavian countries are planning to be involved in the initiative, he said.

We must unite our efforts to support Ukraine in this difficult time. This is our common responsibility," Donald Tusk emphasised.

Training brigades: the experience of France and Germany

Earlier, France has already implemented a project to train and equip the Ukrainian brigade named after Anna Kievska. In December, President Zelenskyy said that Ukraine planned to continue co-operation with France to train another brigade.

In addition, in October, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Germany had pledged to fully equip one Ukrainian brigade by the end of 2024. Nordic countries have also joined this process.

Delays in deliveries

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Ukraine planned to equip 14 brigades with Western weapons in 2023. However, due to delays in deliveries, only four have been provided so far.
