Poland warns of possible influx of Ukrainian refugees due to Kremlin's energy strikes.

Polish authorities have warned of a possible influx of refugees from Ukraine after Russian troops stepped up attacks on the country's energy sector and other important infrastructure. Bloomberg wrote about it in 24.

The publication notes that the Kremlin has stepped up strikes on Ukraine's energy system this year, leading to power outages for households and industries.

We have very clear signals that there could be a large influx of refugees in autumn and winter because of Russian aggression," Dariusz Marcinski, director of the Interior Ministry's civilian protection and emergency management department, said in Warsaw on Wednesday.

Since the full-scale war began, more than 18 million Ukrainians have crossed into Poland, according to Poland's border guard. Just under 1 million have decided to stay in Poland, many of them finding jobs or starting their own businesses.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is reportedly seeking investment to build 1 gigawatt of decentralised generating capacity in the coming months.

Poland, which has an abundance of coal, is discussing a plan that would allow its generators to burn the fuel at home and send it to Ukraine using existing interconnections.

Socialportal reported earlier that Polish Defence Minister Vladyslav Kosyniak-Kamysh believes that Poland supports Ukraine as much as it can, although all is not perfect in the countries' relations due to unresolved historical issues.
